Academic Dishonesty, Fraud, Plagiarism and Arrogance in Higher Education by Dr Sharifah Munirah Alatas I couldn't agree more with Damien Hall's analysis (Malaysiakini, below) about the state of our higher education and the scheming agendas that students and academics plot. He writes, "these cheats will result in academic holders who lack critical and creative thinking skills and they have been “conditioned” to be spoon-fed without working for results." The other phenomenon, which I have written about on countless occasions, is the rat race to publish and to land research projects. Rampant dishonesty permeates this process as well. If you praise the right person, participate in unserious department "makan" sessions (which are actually meant for serious meetings), or if you are adept at capturing sexy flavour-of-the-month rhetorical identifiers in the title of your research project application, you will climb the ladder of success. If you choose the path of in
